What happens after the test

A good result separates repair from testing

Pressure decay needs interpretation

A nitrogen test can show that a circuit or isolated branch loses pressure, but the reading depends on test setup, temperature change, connection integrity, hold time and the size of the leak. A small change is not automatically a vehicle leak if equipment or temperature effects have not been controlled. Conversely, a short stable hold cannot prove that a tiny heat-dependent leak does not exist.

Accessible suspected areas can be checked with an appropriate leak-detection solution while the system is safely pressurised. Buried components may require isolation or other supporting evidence. The quotation should state whether the fee covers one whole-system hold, branch isolation, a longer return check, undertray removal or rear-line access.

Nitrogen must be handled with suitable regulation and workshop procedure. It is not compressed air, oxygen or a DIY substitute, and the circuit must ultimately be evacuated and returned to the specified refrigerant condition.

When methods should be combined

A car that loses cooling over weeks may receive an accessible electronic sweep, dye-history inspection and then a controlled pressure route if no active signal is found. Combining methods is justified when each test narrows uncertainty; it should not be a pile of charges without a reason. The workshop should explain what the previous method failed to establish and what the next method can add.

When testing should stop

Once the leak location is proven strongly enough to authorise repair, more testing can become waste. Stop, document the evidence and quote the component, access and verification. If access is needed only to confirm a hidden final point, price that diagnostic dismantling separately and explain whether it can be reused in the repair labour.

When the complaint is not a leak

When the system is empty
